Montana is well known for having an endless supply of wide open spaces, but hidden around every corner are amazing adventures, photo opportunities, and memories to be made.

  • Flathead National Forest - Biking, Cross Country Skiing, Hiking, Snowmobiling, and more-all just a short distance away.
  • Hockaday Museum of Art - The stated mission is “to enrich the cultural life of our community and region, and preserve the artistic legacy of Montana and Glacier National Park.” 302 2nd Ave E, Kalispell, MT 59901 (52 miles/1hr), 406-755-5268
  • Quinn’s Hot Springs Resort - If our indoor heated pool is not hot enough for you then take the 69 miles/1hr 26min scenic trip to Quinn’s, and enjoy the soothing and perhaps healing hot springs.
  • Kerr DamKerr Dam - The concrete arch-type dam stands at 204 feet high, which is 54 feet higher than Niagara Falls. A 1,000 foot boardwalk takes you down, right above the falls, where you can enjoy an amazing view of the canyon! In the spring and early summer, the spillway is fantastic.   • Flathead Raft Company - Have a day of guided fishing (fly and lake–), tour of White Horse Island, or Whitewater Rafting (Lower Flathead River including Buffalo Rapids-largest wave in MT). In Polson across from Super One, 800-654-4359 or 406-883-5838
  • Polson Bay Golf Course was given a 4 star rating by Gold Digest, and is the only course on Flathead Lake. 111 Bayview Dr. in Polson (9miles/15 min), 406-883-8230
  • Happy Hippo/Three Dog Adventure Tours—The Happy Hippo is a Vietnam era amphibious military vehicle that offers a unique tour of Flathead Lake and Flathead River. Located at Three Dog Down just this side of the bridge, 800-364-3696

  • National Bison Range / Steve Pickel (c)-PickelsPhotographyNational Bison Range - A large portion of the 18, 500 acre Range consists of native Palouse prairieforestswetlands, and streams are also found here providing a wide range of habitats for wildlife. Elk, deer, pronghorn, black bear, coyote and ground squirrels are just some of the mammals that share the area with 350 to 500 bison. Over 200 species of birds also call this home including eagles, hawks, meadowlarks, bluebirds, ducks, and geese. Note that not all roads are open in the winter.

  • Pablo National Wildlife Refuge - This NWR is 2,500 acres of water, marsh, and upland grassland. The refuge provides nesting and resting areas for migratory birds and other wildlife. Photography and wildlife observation are encouraged. Take 93 three miles south of Polson, turn west on Reservoir Road. Traveling west for 1-1/2 miles will bring you to the kiosk for Pablo NWR (13.5miles/27min). Further south in Charlo (28miles/42mins) is Ninepipes NWR.
     
  • The People’s Center – The Peoples Center is the place to experience the rich cultural heritage of the Salish, Pend d’Oreille and Kootenai tribes. 53253 Highway 93 West, Pablo, MT 59855 (13miles/20min), 406-883-5344
     
  • Sandpiper Art Gallery - A non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage and promote participation in the arts. The Sandpiper has an annual Art Festival in August. 306 Main St (6miles/15 min), 406-883-5956   There are many other art galleries in Big Fork, Polson, Ronan, and throughout Glacier Country.
     
  • St. Ignatius Mission – This Catholic Church, built in the 1890s, is unique because its walls and ceilings have 58 original paintings by Brother Joseph Carignano on them. 2 blocks east of 93 in St Ignatius (35miles/48min), 406-745-2768
     
  • Blacktail Mountain Ski Area—Start from the top of the mountain (where the lodge is) and snow ski or snowboard down, then take the lifts up. Lakeside, MT (40miles/1hr 5min), 406-844-0999
More Than One Hour Away
  • A Carousel for Missoula - Located in Caras Park this carousel consists of all hand-carved horses. 101 Carousel Dr., Missoula, MT 59802 (76 miles/1hr 36 min), 406-549-8382
  • Kootenai Falls and the Swinging Bridge - One of the largest free-flowing waterfalls in the northwest. The falls and surrounding area are considered sacred to the Kootenai Indians whose ancestors inhabited the region. A forest trail leads from the highway parking lot down to the Swinging Bridge and makes a nice hike that is not too strenuous. US Hwy 2 between Libby and Troy, milepost 21 (152miles/2hr 45min).
  • Museum of the Plains Indians - It exhibits the creative achievements of Native American artists and craftspeople of the United States. A bit far perhaps, but a great scenic drive thru Glacier National Park. Located at the junction of US Highway 2 & Montana 89 in Browning, MT 59417 (152miles/3hrs), 406-338-2230
     
  • The Historical Museum at Fort Missoula - It not only tells the history of the fort, but also of the city. Bldg. 322, Fort Missoula, Missoula, MT 59804 (78miles/1hr 39 min), 406-728-3476

  • Dog Sled Adventures – Explore the Stillwater State Forest at the speed of dog, with Jeff and his crew at Dog Sled Adventures. Olney, MT (87miles/1hr 45min), 406-881-2275 
  • Conrad Mansion Museum -Visit the most beautifully preserved pre-1900 mansion in Montana, and experience the elegance of a bygone era. 330 Woodland Ave, Kalispell, MT (53 miles/1hr 6 min), 406-755-2166
